Burger Brothers open for business today with some people enjoying a beer and looking out at the empty plinth and run down planters.

There are shops like the one above in Dover sir, like Dover Deal has shops closing in the high st.yes we shop in Deal and eat out,but Dover also as some very good shops and eating house.s please stop running Dover down, might add when the new shops open and the work is all done in the port ,there will be many towns looking at Dover because a lot of the public from their town will be coming over to them.

Dover has a much better looking "posh frock shop" than that in the Captain's picture in Castle Street which is run by a very nice young lady, it is called Country Brides for those who might need a posh frock.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

The difference is that DFL's love the traditional high street that Deal has managed to keep thriving. I am sorry but I have never heard a DFL say, 'I can't wait til DTIZ opens'.

Do Men have their nails done nowadays.?
They have certainly up the stakes with their Hair Doo's now Very expressive
Hence the amount of Barber's, they all seem to be doing well.
Men are attending Beauty Salons more too.
So, are you going to the Nail Bars too, Chaps?

Must be this 'austerity Britain' we hear so much about?
I'm tempted to open one called Wicked Tory Cuts.

Deal today was like an obstacle course for mobility scooters with both Conservative and Labour canvassers joining the Big Issue seller and a tent collecting for some greyhound rescue charity!
A woman stopped me in the street and asked if I'd ever considered changing my energy provider.
I said, "No, I'm quite happy with food"

Noticed earlier that the large unit at the front of the Charlton Centre, most recently home to A & S appliances is now empty..

Was mystified earlier to see people lugging furniture out of the disused Co-op and heading towards Castle Street. The penny dropped that the Heart Foundation shop has been under refurbishment for the last fortnight so they had to store their stock somewhere. I do wonder though how they knew who to contact in regard to the building as there is no "For Sale" or "To Let" sign outside.

Just a thought.
Thank God there was not all this well meaning interventionism in the past otherwise our high streets would be full of farriers and candle-stick makers wasting their time trying to sell stuff that no-one wants at a price they can't afford propped up with public money.
The idea of a thriving High Street in every town is dead. Many of the workers would be better off unemployed or doing some minimum wage job that apparently we NEED loadsa immigrants to do.
Many people don't add enough 'value' to be worth paying even the minimum wage.
Amazon works and gets me lots of stuff so cheap I can hardly believe it (and I don't care that they don't pay their taxes because if they did they would have to put the price of my goods up and I'd end up paying their taxes).
Adam Smith was right. It's all down to the Invisible Hand. If you are too thick or lazy to get a skilled job which pays you well - tough. Get used to it.
Must go. The Ocado delivery is at the door.

I do not agree with post 881,the town needs to down size by half, there is still a lot of public with lots of money live in and a round Dover, but they do not shop in the town.
