I hate to have to ask this question, Gary, but have you contacted that committed campaigner Natalie? She at least should be made accountable for determining who is the governing force behind the operation of TAP. Either DHB or Highways England must be the final decision makers if you are certain the Kent police are not actively involved in it. Perhaps an open letter asking her to establish ultimate accountability at the very least?
You then would have a single established target for your protests. I fear the situation is only going to worse in the coming weeks and months.

The A20 TAP is instigated by Kent Police and typically manned by the Port of Dover Police. As noted on the 'As Expected' thread, Mrs Elphicke raised the matter of air quality monitoring in HoC a few months back - before the recent coroner's verdict concerning traffic air pollution.

That is a great response Gary in #183
, factual and clear enough for even those desk bound dimwits to understand. I wonder who they will pass the buck to this time rather than implement your positive suggestion.

I must object, JH. I doubt very much they're 'desk bound' at all, but more likely 'working from home', as they call 'coasting' nowadays. And this probably makes them not 'dimwits' either, as at least they know which side their bread's buttered.

I have been constantly e-mailing our MP’s. Our plight has even been brought up in parliament last month. She is on the case but is frustrated as we are..
Also e-mailed the prime minister, minster for transport, Baroness Vere the under secretary responsible for Highways England, DHB, Kent Police Commissioner and as you can see Highways England. This is since April 2015 when they brought Dover TAP.
Some do not even bother to reply..
Sadly getting nowhere because Highways England do not care.

Oh! sorry I thought they might have desks in their homes, but maybe their children were using them for their schoolwork. Yes they definitely know which side their bread's buttered.

OK. Sorry, Gary, if I was leading your over old ground. So Highways England are the accepted controlling body as far as the location of TAP is concerned?

As far as I am aware they are the lead body as to where Dover TAP starts. But DHB are the lead when it is to be implemented.
Basically the A20 is an overflow for DHB who as we know are not worried about the local community.
I have even had to correct the BBC when they say Operation Stack for Dover TAP.. I have also pointed out to them that Dover TAP is used up to 100 times a year where operation Stack is hardly used. I pointed out they interview others from places like Maidstone but never the ones who Dover TAP effects the most.

DHB recommends TAP be instigated and Kent Police gives its approval, or not. The trigger for the recommendation is typically when the Internal Buffer Zone in the Eastern Docks, and which holds 4km of traffic, is approaching capacity.

But the 'when' is not the issue here, unless I am misunderstanding things. You have no expectation to influence the timing or frequency but only the question of at what point on the A20 the queue is set to start from. True?
If so, who is the guiding hand for that decision? Is it Kent Highways or DHB police? Are there legitimate (or otherwise) reasons for beginning TAP where they currently do in terms of accommmodating greater numbers of trucks?
Apologies for banging on. I just can't understand why the problem seems to be so intractable and no-one is prepared to explain the reasons for the currently unacceptable situation.

We understand the why Dover TAP is needed to stop the town snarling up. All we ask is for the start of Dover TAP to be moved back up the hill to the disused layby away from a residential area. That is a nice simple solution. They could build control booths up there with a barriers to control the lorry's and check paper work. Also helps the poor DHB police from call the weather..
But alas no one in authority will make that easy decision. Even thou we have made enough complaints.

Feel very sorry for those living closeby.
Dover gets all the hassle, and not much of the money or glory.

Re the problems with TAP .Its no good us sitting at home bashing out on face book saying how sorry we feel for the residents of Aycliffe ,it’s time to bombard all Councillors with letters of indignation. When it comes to election time have a go at those wanting your vote.Cable cars and tarting up the Market Square is not going to help the residents of Aycliffe .
Currently the Offices Of DDC and DTC Are shut .Most people are working from home .This does not prevent us all trying to resolve the problem .

Perhaps the residents of Aycliffe should consider withholding some of their council tax until KCC/DDC take them seriously. It would appear that financial consideration is what spurs them into action. Any letters, emails will sadly only elicit a generic response and more running around in circles.

It’s brilliant keeping Guston in the spotlight- BBC news there this morning to make an article. It’s good to see that the land is being recognised as fields and not as previously described “disused industrial land”.
BBC also doing a recording on Monday regarding the effect on the whole area - will also highlight Aycliffe again.
