Mind you, if my memory serves, he did visit Dover and reckoned that a UK - EU customs union would allow us to avoid border controls! Tsk, tsk and contrary to an HoC briefing too (I think).

With an 80 seat deficit, there is nothing substantive Labour can do. This is a Tory psychodrama and always has been. Indeed, you could argue that Johnson has too big a majority for his own good, as he doesn't even need to pretend to be sensible. I maintain that if we go no deal and things fall apart, Labour win by default. It's as simple as that for me.
But of course, I caveat all of this by saying that we'll do a last minute deal with Brexiteers and Remainers alike furious with the content.

Neil
You are a realist I hope a little more than our Brian .
For labour to get anywhere near winning they have to hold the seats they presently have ,
Win in Scotland
Win back seats up north..
Win in Wales.
I'm afraid if my area is anything to go by and listening to people across the country this just isnt going to happen .
Not because people don't recognise how poor this govt is, but because they don't trust labour either

Not at all Brexit I know, but:
http://www.doverport.co.uk/about/news/ferry-terminal-at-the-port-of-dover-is-closed-to-a/13561/. Bet this means a run on Yorkies locally, although Brussels can keep sending us sprouts.

So, it's all done, apparently. One good thing, with the Sun going early on the "personal victory for the PM" stuff (Harry Cole in full salesman mode) it will be impossible for PM to claim it's not his. I believe I have been consistent throughout all of this - I just want Boris to own the outcome, whatever it is.

Yep. Interesting timing. Apparently the so called ERG have a veritable star chamber of lawyers poised to examine the detail. Clearly there won't be too much scrutiny given the available time. But there's no way the Commons will reject it given the hideous prospect of no deal at all.

Given that it was all over by Christmas, can I expect a free tin of fags, baccy and cards from royalty, or should I hang onto my Grandad's?

It would appear that the basic rule of origin is that a UK or EU product may contain up to 10% by value of non-originating components (ie non-UK and non-EU) and still be classed by the two parties as originating there.

"UK International Trade Secretary Liz Truss said she expects to sign a continuity trade agreement with Turkey this week - a move that was not possible until the deal with the EU was struck."
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55463506.
Should be one of her more easy tasks as, whilst Turkey is obliged by its customs union with the EU to adopt the same stance on our exports to them as the EU does, we're under no such obligation on imports from Turkey.

Crikey. Just think of all the wondrous benefits that will bring.

[Mr Johnson said] "But from the point of view of UK exporters, for instance, they'll now have the advantage, that they'll only have one set of forms they have to fill out for export to around the whole world."
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-55478513
Really? Not sure where that came from - the 'one set of forms' I mean, not the 'advantage'.

Well I was in the army when the UK joined the EU ,I DID NOT WANT us to join the EU but was not aloud to say that when in the Army, well I done my 6 years in the army and after that could say what I liked or did not like and today I am saying I am glad the UK is standing on own ttwo feet again,Yes I do like it over there having worked both in Germany and france , but did not like the way it run by the EU and over the next few years I think we will see other members dropping out.
God save OUR QUEEN.

Dover disorients the Grauniad. No surprises for a paper that lost its compass many Suns ago.

Rather than knocking the Guardian, here's some local news of interest. I'll get back to my Daily Mail now and feel very smug.
