"but Germany is quite happy to put many thousands of their car workers on the dole in order to punish us, "
Why do people write and believe this sort of nonsense?

Keith. I know your continuous comments are about immigration.
Just to clarify.
Commonwealth citizens, Irish citizens and UK citizens are Only allowed to vote in General Elections.
EU citizens and convicted prisoners are not allowed to vote in General Elections as well as members of the House of Lords are not allowed. I suggest the convicted prisoners clause may cover the House of Lords?

I suppose I will have to spell it out.

Well you've attempted to spell it out but as usual you haven't. Nowhere in that article does it say, or even imply,
"but Germany is quite happy to put many thousands of their car workers on the dole in order to punish us, "
If you seriously believe BMW or any other manufacturer will sack workers rather than sell us cars you're even more deluded than I thought, and to be fair you were starting from a very low point.

Let's build on McSweeney's assertion.
The head of BMW calls the workforce together and says there is an order from UK to build thousands of cars. The workers cheer and shake hands.
"But hold on, I want to punish them, you're all sacked."
Its very straightforward, even for the terminally dim on here.

Howard. The article is 9 months old.
Perhaps for the Comrades at the Guardian that maybe current news.
The EU /German tactic of bullying our country will not in the end succeed.
The Germans should remember their history of after the first world War when they had to grovel because of the Treaty of Versailles.

As far as I understand, this is reciprocated with all current EU nation states.
I'm not even sure that the issue will be up for 'debate' during the exit process, as the reciprocal arrangement is conditional on EU membership: i.e. once the UK exits the EU, there's no justification for it.

after we exit the EU the immigrants will have full rights to vote, local and government elections.

Post #617 The end paragraph. Conditional on EU membership. At least 2 EU nation states are members of the Commonwealth. Cyprus, Malta. The Irish Republic, a EU nation state has a bilateral agreement on elections and free movement with the UK for almost a hundred years.
Gibraltar is a interesting case.
David Davis is going to be very busy.

Similar view in today's Telegraph Peter although the writer thinks the EU may back down under pressure from Germany.

Keith. I suggest the balance of power has already been tipped especially if you look at the current politicians. Most of them look like and act like Aliens.

Indeed. But I wouldn't have thought that any agreement on voter eligibility that pre-existed the reciprocal arrangement with EU nation states (Maastricht 1992) would be affected: so the eligibility of nationals of Commonwealth states, the Irish Republic, Malta and Cyprus would continue. Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory so, again, nationals would keep their eligibility (unless, of course, something happens to Gibraltar during the negotiations).

Questions. If it takes the Conservatives 2 weeks and costs us £1 billion to secure a mere 10 UK politicians consent. How long will it take the Conservatives to negotiate Brexit with EU politicians and how much will it cost us?
