Nobody else comes near in relation to intelligence that is proven or community offered voluntarily work. He has a bee in his bonnet about Love Dover and aims his displeasure at money from the public purse being spent on Dickins Corner and is strongly objecting against the mayoral car expenses, now cut to £5000 for the lease. His open stance against those 2 issues alone will gain him votes.
Very true an impressive candidate, sadly living in Orpington is likely to lose him the opportunity to make a difference. How much time could he give the ward; admittedly more than most of this town's councillors but that is not difficult.

I assume you are talking about archaeologist Brian Philp of Painted House fame Anna, he is the one who lives in Orpington.
To put it bluntly I don't think he has any chance of getting elected, at least I hope not I want someone who at least lives in the town. I wonder how many times he has visited the Tower Hamlets ward I do not mean just driven through.

Mr Philp may well be a learned man but treats his discovery as if he owns it. Many years ago DDC offered to take it over and turn it into a major tourist attraction which it should be. Instead we get it open for 3 or 4 months of the year depending which way you interpret the sign outside and sometimes doesn't even open at all when it is supposed to.

I think he made the right choice, nay the only choice he could have:

Two very different issues Reg, both before my time here but going from what I have read and heard from people the White Cliffs Experience that was loved by all who visited and it won various design awards. Unfortunately it became a party political football and we know how that always ends.
The WCE was created from nothing so highly expensive whilst the Roman Painted House was a gift that just needed something added to make it a tourism magnet. DD.C would have brought in an expert in that field. On my one visit there it came across as interesting to scholars like Mr Philp but drab and uninviting to the general public

My point stands though as our council allowed it to become that football.
Experience shows the lack of ability of our councils to run or organise such projects, well over 20yrs for the st James development that our esteemed leader not very long ago, was still stating on this forum would be open in a couple of months.
The white cliffs experience.
The Whitfield outlets/debradlei wharf debacle, to name just a few.
You cannot blame Brian Philp for not wanting the Roman painted house to get kicked around the chamber by those who have our best interests at heart.

Is the place not run, solely by volunteers? That might be partly the reason, but, I must admit I am not 100% sure that is right. Also, was there not a bit of a scuffle between Mr Philip and our town clerk a few months back in relation to the Roman painted House? It would certainly make for slightly more entertaining Council meetings and they might last a bit longer, if he was elected. Some meetings don't last long enough for the seat to warm up.

As ever the fact that something is a charity and run by volunteers does not mean it is the best way to do things.
One only has to visit Lullingstone Roman Villa (English Heritage) or Dorchester Roman Town House (Council run) to see just how badly run the Roman Painted House is in terms of accessibility, advertising and even the fact that it's got the same temporary cover over it after 50 years.
Brian and the Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit did some great work half a century ago but it really is time for well meaning amateurs to step aside.
It needs proper access - ideally from the museum side opening up the wasted grass space and opening up a new connection from the Market Square to York Street.
Brian's work has been recognised and he has rightly been awarded various honours for it, but it really is about time to let his baby go for others to care for when he will no longer be with us.

To be quite honest there could be some real entertainment should mr Phelps win(although unlikely)
Ialso feel it would be as entertaining if Rebecca Sawbridge won in tower hamlets these 2 are not part of the main stream 2 parties and both could make town council meetings more entertaining but more so shake up the 3 main parties on DTC

I know Brian really well, and he is an interesting man, although not local, his son is a Tory MP or was before the last election I believe.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

You won't get anything from the "Greens" as they have no money and I doubt you will get anything from UKIP for the same reason. Labour have all the money at the moment I wouldn't be surprised if Bob defected to them for that reason.
