No your right Sue and achieved little with episodes like that
Back to the 2 by elections
Although Labour is flooding the wards again, not standing local candidates could back fire on them,
but the tester will also be for Mr Glazier does he still have support in tower hamlets, you will recall he won the seat from labour when UKIP had a little following, that's all gone now, so should he not do well he will be looking over his shoulder come the next district elections.
It's a shame the greens didn't have the finance to leaflet all the ward as I dobelieve becky sawbridge would make a gd Cllr
We also of course have mr Phelps standing against the mayor and his car, and of course hes made no secret of his dislike for the clerk
I would love to see him win just for the entertainment value.
But I do think Labour will win both seats
If they don't it will be a disaster for them
St Rads there safest seat they lost last time to an independent with turn outs only around 10% says a lot.
I was told Roger walkden stepped aside to let the present mayor get put in again with the understanding the present mayor would support r walkden for mayor next may
With the present mayor only getting in 9 votes to 8 and the 2 by elections it's not looking gd for roger lol

I have now had my propaganda blurb from the Conservatives much like the Labour one in waffle but not so long and definitely not so glossy. To me the main difference between the two blurbs is Labour are spending more on their leaflets.
I do wish people would concentrate on the person not the party for these small local elections.

In which Cllr Kevin Mills proves the old adage that 'no man's legs are too short to reach the ground'.

Of course the labour candidate lives nearer to my house than the ward he's putting up for that could go against him, with labour having recently lost the seat to an independent, more thought should have gone into it.
More so as this is labours safest seat and turnout doesn't get much above 10% if there lucky that says a lot .

Sue
Unless your going to be in the ward more than at home ( often just voting fodder for hich most labour candidates have shown in the past they only go to wards at election times) then you won't have your finger on the pulse and just voting fodder for the party.
I wonder then why bother putting up.
Or do they just want Cllr before there name?

I I think that is the case Keith.I still try to report any problems I see. From where I view it once elected they appear at council meetings then don't engage with their electorate.I bet they are unaware all river buses have to go up Hillside to get into Dover once the new time table commences. This was pointed out at a meeting which I attended .They will re view it after a few weeks. If the bus had gone normal.route Rive residents could have changed at Buckland Bridge for Canterbury service ,as it is expected get to Kearsney or Temple Ewell.I had to smile when I was on a bus recently a young lady who lives in. Bunkers Hill informed me she paid her rates to River Parish Council..I did not put her right?.

There is a problem people don't have a clue which council is which
but often cllrs don't engage with the ward.
I recall a survey done on local residents most said thy had no idea who there councillor is

Sue
Have to say after my 25 years I had nearly 13 years out and didn't get involved in politics much at all.
But it's not always about political colour, as I proved in priory.

Hard to believe that a Town Council by-election would bring out the worst in people. The Green party candidate is complaining that two posters she put up have been ripped down and that she "knows" what party did it. Nice one as it puts the other parties under a cloud with the voters without naming anyone. The truth is likely to come from the fact that we are in the school holiday when such things are a normal occurrence with bored yoofs.

I find that highly unlikely Keith as UKIP benefit from the Greens taking votes from Labour.

Well Howard The same day this all came out U kippers were out in numbers in the area
Anyway back to the 2 elections;
St Rads
Who do you choose from all the unknowns and living outside ward?
Such a shame lowest turnouts in the District says a lot.
Labour losing seat to an independent last time round says a lot.
Not much choice
Tower Hamlets
Labour again standing a candidate outside ward, lives just road from me!!! so not to many lessons learnt there.
Glayzier(UKIP) did get in under the UKIP flow 2years ago, but that's all gone now, so its now down to does he have a personal following or not?
Phelps;
Standing to be a candidate to oppose mayors car/more democracy on town council
but living In Orpington doesn't help him, but he does attend evert town council meeting, and certainly is a thorn in the side of many within the town council,.
He would certainly liven up meetings
Sawbridge
Very passionate green party activist
Although some at there peril write her off, they should look across to KCC where the tory stood down and promoted the green candidate at the next election.
The green candidate won, and at the last election held the seat.
So the greens can win even in tory heartland.
Just as they can in the labour heartland which is very disorganised at the mo.
Would make a gd Cllr.
So all to play for .................................

Interesting to read your synopsis, Mr Sansum1. Are you referring to Martin Whybrow of the Greens? He is the only Green KCC councillor I'm aware of. In which case, which Tory stood aside and promoted him?!
In my view, the local Labour party branches are getting out and campaigning well. What is disorganised about them in your opinion?
Just because you don't take an interest in politics doesn't mean that politics won't take an interest in you. PERICLES.

Hello mr/mrs Button,
It appears within the local labour some are going off there own ways
but yes they always get people out on the doors
but didn't help them in priory where they flooded the ward.
Mr Capon was the tory in Hythe
and yes the green Cllr I'm hearing has quite a following now
well respected in county hall

What could Henry have meant by "all sorts of mischief"?
.
August 28 at 6:17am ·
..
Good morning Kippers,
Henry Bolton and the Kent Campaign Team were out leafleting and knocking doors in Tower Hamlets ward in Dover yesterday with UKIP candidate Ben Glayzer, getting up to all sorts of mischief.
The grassroots must be supported.
A few pictures below and a video soon to follow!

Tearing down Green posters???????
of course if Ben doesn't win(living in the ward) and 2 years ago having UKIP behind him as anew party
this has gone. he now has to rely more on a personal vote.
Should he not win the seat i'm sure he would be concerned if he will hold his district council seat in 2 years.
