One of the 'safest' Conservative wards on DDC so let's hope that the Tories field a good candidate rather than mere voting fodder to make up the numbers as their candidate is likely to be there for the foreseeable future (depending on boundary reorganisation).

Extraordinary. So following your logic you would rather have yet another councillor (and I'm talking both sides of the chamber) who will merely vote with the rest of his/her herd?

the answer NO is that your lot will put up the same old voting fodder
Anyway can't see any other party doing much to dent that seat

To be fair Keith the same could be said about any party in any area, just look at Tower Hamlets which is as safe a Labour seat as any in Dover. One reason not to have a party just 'Independents' in local elections.

Jan;
whilst I share bits of your view I need to explain a little more,,,
Tower hamlets was safe but you recall lost to the UKIP party atl last election
st rads safest labour seat lost to an independent so no longer safe.
Your view and mine on indies may differ....
When the Town council got itself involved in the indies, most were aligned to a political party, so not that independent even though on paper they were supposed to be.
I recall David Hannant clearly stating whilst on town council hes independent of all parties within a week he became a tory councillor on district.
So that vision is a good one
when people are honest

Yes Guston and the Langdons come under St Margrets .When I was Chairman I was at Guston and Paul was there.I was at I think it was East Langdon he wasthere when I presented the Chairman of the Parish Council with a Community award .Always daunting when the boss man was present .Paul was a good Councillor well received in his ward .I think theParish Councils appreciated me visiting them .I did cover a few miles DDC has a large boundary ..Happy days .

Oh dear,,,,,,,,back on subject,,,,,,
It's rather sad if both candidates don't live in the ward.
Funnily enough at a recent meeting I challenged the local labour chair on the recent town council by elections where he started by announcing labour was gong to work in the communities, that would be nice still waiting,,,,,,
I asked if why didn't labour stand a local geezer in one of its supposed safest seats he responded they could nt find anyone local and to stand some one
I did remind him of my view that politics should play no part in town councils
and the green party candidate opinion it was better not to stand anyone than an unknown
still we can live in hope

Despite the good weather yesterday a turnout of only 31% against 76% when the seat was fought in May 2015.
