I might add I was over seventy when I retired but I had learnt the ropes by then .I would not advise anyone over seventy going for a county seat at that age.Takes time to learn .

Having done all three and elected rather than
Just put in without a vote I see a little where Sue comes from .
But , most people can adapt.
Certainly over the years Sue and I have worked closely together on public transport , even with her party activists N Collor trying hard to stop an open debate.
Certainly views and concerns worked well and a lot could be rectified, that was until Mr Collor came in and disbanded the committee .
As I said above they will win the seats , will they still be seen after May, that's still to be seen

Yes I can agree with you Keith.I think we achieved a lot on that committee. We worked well with Stage Coach,British Rail ,taxi representatives and Parish Council Reps .In fact a wide amount of knowledge .A very bad decision .I enjoyed that committee and you and myself had a broad knowledge of public transport .Both of us used the buses ,and you and my late husband worked within the rail industry. Some people have to be top dog and some are the little workers ..

sue
You will recall that committee you wouldn't have recognised which party was which , all working towards improving public transport
Sadly our Nigel collor present KCC cllr didn't like it so rather than debate it, his first move was to do away with committee .
It hasn't had the same input since, but there we are that's local politics democracy for you .

You are right on both points .It was a lovely committee.Transport issues have never been debated properly since that committee was devolved.JTB just lip service.

KCC planning committee hearing the Dover Fastrack application Wednesday 17 March at 10am. Let’s hope they have the sense to refuse this waste of money. Last week they turned down Sturry relief road application. Canterbury City Council had approved two huge housing developments in Sturry but had failed to address the road issues ahead of approval.

a few quid could be spent on pot holes, if they are done properly they will last a long time.

So you are electing your councillors in May
And the present two will have agreed to these parklets or do they let the officers decide ?

I think you need to be sure of your facts first. There was no consultation .From the out cry being raised the work should have been stopped .I said it before these would not have been placed in West Kent .The wrought irons ones where have they gone .I did write to the Leader of DDC .Not only are they awfull to look at but taking up all those parking spaces .When election time comes round and some sort of canvassing takes place think on .!!

I did think about standing again but I cannot find anything I could help with at my age .Last big thing I did try was to get the parish councils I was on (4 in number) was to have EMERGENCY CENTRE S SET UP and I still think it is the way forward ,with whats going on now I feel they would be of a great help most for the older ones of us but there for the young ones to, you could set them up in a village hall using the public from the parish and do exercises and practice ie first aid, being just one of many also, also get the emergency services invoived this could all be done at weekends. all need phone numbers of public who would help in a emergency. But it was not taken up.

When we had the big floods in Folkestone rd I had to phone the head of the D.D.C, and thy did not turn out till some hrs after we got there.WE would need to have our own set up at the village hall who would turn out right away ,it would take a lot of time any other way.I done a lot of training in the army and on the railway in case of a happing local. What training do the D,D,C, do ? it is all on paper and that is no good.
You have to plan it out what and who does what and then get the group up and running and trying out your plans till you get it all right, or you will be just running round like a headless chickern .

I'm amazed that anyone can say they wouldn't stand because they had no issues they could deal with!
With so many issues going around the Town, District, and county , and the country .
Sue
I think you are missing my point
With regard to councillors
It would be quite wrong of any officer to just implement projects whatever they may be .
At DDC you will be aware projects came from officers and,/,councillors and decided by councillors
Then implemented by the officers .
So Beresford /collor would have been aware
Now there in place with the known no public consultation one looking at it (still not saying they are good or not )
I have no idea of N Collor view
But that's not unusual

Standing up in Dover town hall
Shouting at the top table whilst being asked to sit down is in fighting
But on the positive side
I know many in my area will only vote for any community focussed candidates
Which are few

I remember that Keith. I arranged for Vic to have his say on condition that he behaved himself. In the end the Chair of the meeting had to threaten him with removal from the hall. But we still remain friends.

They did try that but I did not move or go and had my say ,but I would not do it now, I just keep to my garden and wife And Mr Pablo I do not know who you are but no hard feelings ,in fact sir I never have had bad feelings just said what I needed to ,and the shouting at me went in ear and out the other one.
At that meeting the town sgt said would I go and I said no and he went away.
