Re all the posts on here regarding lack of consultation etc .I was apposed to the Fastrack bus scheme ...I made a request under Freedom of information act .Agrant of Sixteen ..point 1million was awarded with DDC providing a further One million ..4 The whole scheme Seventeen.point 5 million
I looked over DDC budget figures .Interested to see how much money will be left in reserves.
Then we have money for a Cable car .So we will have a rapid bus service going up Castle Hill and a Cable Car for visitors to the Castle .A Cable car will not operate on a windy day .
Yet if the locals ask for one or two new toilet blocks no money.
Neither of these schemes will benefit the local Community of Dover. Its Pie in the Sky.It would be interesting to know how many people use Dover Priory .A lot of residents in Whitfield find it easier to use Martin Mill .
Not this year or not even next there will be a short fall in the DDC reserves.
When the reliant on food banks ceases and homeless people are catered for and young people can access the housing market then perhaps these pie in the sky ideas can be explored .
If more people looked deeper into costs etc and asked their Councillors more in depth questions we might not get crazy things like Parklets .The whole financial system of how our country run needs to be studied in depth .
We are storing up huge debts in this country which the next generation will have to pay for .
So many people have to have rely on financial support to pay for a roof over their heads or provide food on the table for their families.

Good points there Sue, our present councillors seem to act without logic or common sense far to often.

I am genuinely excited to see just how badly Labour bomb in these elections. I sincerely hope it's catastrophic.

Local elections should not be about a party, it should be about a candidate who tries to get what the local community need rather than ill thought out silly obscure ideas like cable cars, parklets and cycle lanes.
I do not care who gets in so long as they are better than the present lot who blindly follow the party line plonkers.

It shouldn't be on party lines
But it always has been and unlikely to change now..
Even many independents are aligned to political parties just look at the ex indy
David Hannant
Whist on Dover town council stated he has no links to, or even wants to have any links to political parties
He then a month later joins Dover District council as a conservative
I don't know how we get round this keep electing councillors that have no interest in Dover
The present two are likely to be re-elected even after there fiasco on
Parklets
Cycle lanes
Poor opposition will help them to get re elected
The labour party could have it's worst results ever
But with the Tories as unpopular it doesn't give much choice

Surely, especially after the last year, only an inveterate dope, a masochist, or someone keen to empower sociopaths would vote for a candidate standing for any of the legacy parties, or for a candidate who has been anywhere near one of them in the last couple of decades.

Well if he lives in Deal that could be an issue
I know Mr Collor is concerned thinking it will be close
But that's normal when your a candidate , but more in his case rarely being seen
And the officer led decisions on
Parklets
Cycle lanes
He's also thinking if g Wanstall stands might let labour in
But I think he will take more labour votes than Tory
