A Dover apprentice is celebrating after graduating as part of the 'Class of 2016', completing a programme offering career opportunities with optical retailer Vision Express. 19-year-old Matt Hughes saw off competition from an average of 50 applicants for each place.

A second man has been jailed for raping a woman on Christmas Day 2014 in Dover. Georgel Cornel Hirjanu was sentenced to 13 years and three months in prison and must serve a further three years on licence.

A Dover resident who threw bricks and other objects at both left and right-wing demonstrators has been jailed for 20 months. Aaron Buttress, 26, is one of more than 50 people arrested so far in connection with disturbances in the town on Saturday 30 January 2016.

Dover District Council has announced details of its Parade in the Park event to celebrate the 90th birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II. The free-to-attend event will take place at Kearsney Abbey on Sunday, 12 June from 1 to 4pm.
Kier Awarded £24m St James Dover contract

Kier has been awarded a £24m contract by developer, Bond City, to deliver the £53m St James development in Dover town centre. The contract includes the construction of a six-screen cinema, hotel, restaurants, and shops.

Kent Police has confirmed further details of demonstrations planned in Dover this weekend. In order to prevent serious disruption to the community, the Chief Constable has imposed conditions on right-wing marches expected to take place on both days as well as opposition protests by left-wing groups.
