Tess from the Oriental Mini-Mart in the High St is moving next month to the space in Market Square previously occupied by Londis. The move is dependant on the council approving a planning application for change of use of her old premises from retail to a physiotherapy clinic.

I thought Londis had to move because DDC wanted that shop as some sort of walkway to the DTIZ.
On another point what is happening at the "Allotment"? seems to have been closed for some time now with a sign saying that electrical works are going on inside.

I noticed that they had been advertising for a chef for quite sometime before closing.

Franco from La Scala told me he was taking over and it would be similar food, but with a Mediterranean twist.

Looking at their Facebook page the last review was 8 months ago where a chap gave a scathing review of his meal and the service(sounds like the chef was Tom Dick and there was agency cover).
This was the 12th visit he and his wife had made coming all the way from Westgate. If he was so happy before why didn't he speak to the owner and explain what had happened that evening?

Never tried it but always heard it had a good reputation although to me the menu always looked abit pricey.

Just looked at the prices in the window, definitely out of my price range however good the food is.

The former "K Salon" has a new tenant selling ladies apparel and a few bits and bobs, looks nicely laid out bright and cheerful.

Noticed earlier how bad the empty units opposite M & S looked, something has to be done before the cruise season starts.
Either action from DDC on section 105 or maybe the Town Team can agree something with the couldn't care less landlords and have some photos of old Dover adorn the windows.

Old photos in the window is all very well but its still an empty shop,as the old saying goes "you cant polish a turd",but seriously the costs of running a small shop, the rents n rates, public liability insurance etc etc it just doesnt end.Must be very difficult to make a profit.Maybe they should all be turned into Kebab and Pizza takeaways. They always seem to be in demand.

We went to La Scala last night. The Allotment is going to open again on Thursday. It will be open 8.30 to close, 7days a week.

He said close so I suppose he means 10ish or later if people are still eating.

Town Team has been trying with regard to the units over the road from M&S, but the landlords are not at all cooperative.

I rather suspected that to be the case the odd empty unit here and there is to expected but 4 out of 5 stands out a mile. I presume the rents are high there otherwise the new micropub/hairdressers near the "Eagle" would have moved into one.

The problem might not be just the rent, the terms in the lease might also cause doubts among any prospective tenants.
