Love it or hate it will be a shame if it shuts, its very popular with kids and shoppers and always seems to be busy, whitfield is just too far for many who dont have the means or transport to get there. Not good for the town if it goes.As for your your candle lit suppers Howard, how about The eight bells?

Having given it a bit of thought maybe they have grasped the fact that the DTIZ has no fast food take aways enrolled so far. After taking in a film or working out in the 24/7 gymnasium what could be better than luxuriating in a feast of mechanically recovered meat?

The empty land on the corner of York Street and Townwall Street is the perfect place for a drive-thru, whether it's MacDonald or whoever.
Actually, come to think of it, the Sports Centre site would probably be even better.

When I was young we called this sort of thing a 'jumble sale'!

Another drive-thru. The number of people driving down the A20 would suggest Townwall Street is the perfect place.

I was just thinking about last Christmas. We took our grandchildren to McDonalds. They were popping over the road to The Card Factory to buy bits that we'd asked them to and then they popping into Game to peruse. It made me smile and I can't help thinking how much they'll miss out on not having a small town centre to do this. St James will be a generic shopping centre with no atmosphere, no quirky buildings, no wonky pavements or puddles and the people you pass by will probably not know your name

There is a lot of understandable concern for the future of the Town Centre but I feel optimistic that it won't turn into a wasteland. Property owners will face a reality check and cut rents in order to get some income from properties that they can't sell. My guess is that Primark or similar will take over the M & S unit and traders further out in the High Street and London Road will be able to afford rents in the Centre itself.
Looking at what has happened in Folkestone the Bouverie Centre has been an outstanding success and Sandgate Road is still booming although Guildhall Street is a wasteland and will probably be used for housing in the future.

I wish someone would put a DIY / Home Decorating outlet in the Town.
Some access to a decently priced pot of paint etc.

I have heard they are very helpful, when I had a couple of rooms painted the professional decorator used them so they must be good.
I agree that we could do with a hardware shop in town rather than a trip to B&Q or hope Argos have what you want.
