Where does that leave the one opposite the Charlton Centre, there was talk of it moving to Whitfield some time back?

Doesn't seem that long ago that the demise of books was predicted due to the advent of Kindle, thankfully many of us actually like book shops and libraries and stick with tradition.

Thanks Bob Frost for making light of the very serious position small local shops find themselves in
i'm sure they will be pleased in your light hearted position.
I'm sure they would have preferred your support

Keef,
As ever I had no idea what 'rally' you were referring to and doubt if any other readers did.
You have the language of Shakespeare to use.
Try leaving information if that's what you wish to promulgate. That way we can all leave the cryptic clues to the crossword.

It Isn't anything to do with me, I understand it has been arranged by Cllr Heron/Wallace and small shopkeepers fighting for survival if I get further info of course I will put it on here

Mystery now solved but I cannot see how a rally would achieve anything. The DTIZ is a reality that everyone has to accept and for the foreseeable future there will be more empty units in the town centre. long term is likely to see units turned over to housing plus micro pubs, vaping cafes etc could help things if landlords were realistic about rents. Businesses that now trade on the London Road could be lured in and as already suggested GP surgeries and Dentists could move in.

Will the local small businesses shut up shop to attend the rally, would be a shame what with all the extra footfall it would create!

A young McSwine in your dreams; that will only happen if the rents in the town centre drop to the level of London Road, something that is unlikely to happen given the recent purchase prices for mixed use and commercial properties achieved at auction. Their needs to be a complete shift in investor/developer expectations as to rent yields for that to happen.
Whilst it is laudable (if perhaps laughable) having a "rally" to support smaller businesses and independent traders, this is nothing more than assuaging of consciences if it is not accompanied by a change in behaviour of the majority of Dovorians; who need to start "using it or losing it".
(P.S. There is little to nothing that DDC can do to change the take up of privately rented retail units, despite the nonsense spouted by some.)

A Turkish restaurant is set to open its doors in Dover in a matter of weeks.
Popular local restaurant chain Aspendos will move into the old Chapter 8 restaurant building in King Street in January,

Does anybody know where/when kaspas is opening in Dover. Has been 'coming soon' for a while now on their site and jobs were advertised some time ago.

I seem to remember that was intended for King Street but I can only see a planning application for a recruitment agency to open at no. 9.

Was in M & S earlier and they have a section now for "party food", but most of it expires by the end of the month, I don't think there are many parties in November.
