And water features only good in the Summer.?The right greenery can look good all the time.Where will the Christmas tree go?.My garden looks ok in theAutumn and Winter.I will be positive when the drinking population doesn’t spill out into the streets.

Not when the plans are rubbish Judith. The last thing these lunatics need is encouragement - they will be dusting off the model of the cable-car next!

I see the seating is low with no back rest. Those the DTC installed a few years ago blue plastic no back rests .The Seats in the bus shelters no good for sitting on.These people never think they will turn seventy .Why would you want to go where you cannot sit down.

This is done on purpose Sue. The idea is that local alkies/druggies won't be able to use them to have a snooze. Seriously.

I want to be positive but we also have to be practical.
Flower beds can look good all year round if planted with lavender and winter flowering shrubs like Vibernum, small sculptures could also make the area more attractive. Water features look nice until the vandals add their much loved bubbles as happened with the much missed fountain.
The Market Square should return to being the main meeting point all year round, possibly with a cafe culture atmosphere with plenty of seating for all ages and maybe something to keep younger children entertained.

The Market Square is pretty grim now. I too lament the loss of the fountain. The current flower beds are too high off the ground and oddly placed. It does need a revamp. The proposed plan may be far from perfect but it has the potential to be more attractive than what is there now.

P.S. The cable car is a crazy idea and totally impractical.

Of course it is - unfortunately at Fort Whitfield there are a number who have 'drunk the Kool Aid'.

The millions being spent on a water feature are a brilliant idea. This is what everyone in Kent has been demanding for years so they would have a reason to visit Dover.

Lucky the council are offering grants of £10k to open up empty premises or £1000 for sprucing up existing occupied frontages.

#1874 Hi Sue, the pictures are from before the 1st public consultation during which a number of respondents raised the issue about the benches and them having no arms or back rests. The comments were listened to and my understanding is that the final design will have different types of benches, some with backs and arm rests. Given the cost of professional services to re-draw such representations and the need to keep pre-bid costs as low as possible, the changes to the seating design do not show on the pictures of the square because new impressions were not commissioned to reflect the final design.

Hairdressers Associates (Jerrys) has moved from near Victoria Crescent to Church Street.
Work was going on last night in the ex-takeaway next to Bailey's opticians.
