I see "our Kylie" is a fan of the late John Miles. I still have Rebel and Stranger in the City on vinyl. Can't claim to be a creative though.

Given that Kylie was referred to as spineless on the 'One rule for them' thread, I was interested to see that her speech in the debate on the Medical Cannabis (Access) Bill - in which she was arguing for the removal of barriers to prescription on the NHS of medicinal cannabis - contained the following:
"The quality and effectiveness of medical cannabis in the few cases relating to epileptic children can be satisfied. It is obtained openly via private prescriptions through recognised channels. As I have said—and I emphasise this for Conservative Members in particular—that is lawful."

News (well, good news) being a bit slack, it must be time for a pop at the French?
"Not again! It’s absolutely vital that the French act more responsibly this year so we don’t see a repeat of the Christmas chaos caused by their unilateral border closures."

She is another one who will loose her seat if as our spineless mp she has the nerve to stand again.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Latest from Kylie: "...I have been pressing for the UK and France to work together to put a stop to the small boats before we see more fatalities. Joint patrols on French beaches and at sea would be a real step forward...
"Moreover, we already have joint border controls. French frontier police are based in Dover, while UK Border Force officers are in Calais under the Le Touquet Treaty. Joint patrols would simply be an extension of the co-operation that already takes place."
Interesting take (I thought) on the Treaty, followed by somewhat of a leap.

I'm beginning to think that this "spineless" tag is over-done; I commend her for securing the following debate on a pile of seriously sticky brown stuff coming to a port near you next September:
https://hansard.parliament.uk/Commons/2021-12-15/debates/C0F84B17-7B0E-4C2C-9C91-B3F1541121BE/details. It's very much well-worth a read - particularly the bit on taking fingerprints in Dover of outbound tourists. Once they've all got out of their cars, of course.

The quicker we tattoo a bar-code on everybodys foreheads the better I say.
If it works at Sainsburys self check-out surely it would work at the Port of Dover .............

Credit where it's due, she has summarised the impending pitfalls well. I'm still bemused by the further delays in sanitary and phytosanitary checks on incoming goods though. (Yes - I know it's a separate issue).
#194 You need an army of tatooists with uncommonly steady hands for the barcode solution to work

Aren’t there possibly microchips in tattoos? On a lighter note, there is a tattoo shop in my new town called Pain in the Art.

Thanks for posting this, Button. An interesting read
I noticed a common theme from the Minister's (Kevin Foster) response; that it's nothing to do with us. Best summed up with this line:
"Furthermore, on routes where juxtaposed controls are in operation, such as at the port of Dover, EES checks will be undertaken by French officers prior to departure from the UK."
This is definitely going to be one to watch very closely, and a sharp reminder that we have barely scratched the surface in our post Brexit world. I don't know about anyone else, but on the face of it - very large queues seem inevitable.

But with a major opposition poor in content
Hardly a party looking to gain respect

I don't see this as a Brexit, Cumbrian (?) or party-political issue myself. I'm guessing that, words behind the scenes having got nowhere, she decided to let her exasperation play-out in public, for all the shruggy-shoulders it got her.
I think she should have stuck to the people controls: "The problem with the EES, to put it at its simplest, is that it has been designed for airports, by which I mean individual foot passengers. It has not been designed for people travelling in groups, it has not been designed for people travelling in vehicles and it has certainly not been designed for gateways operating juxtaposed controls." It clouded the issue to mention controls on goods, though the fact that she did suggests to me that perhaps the UK controls on exports are not yet done and dusted.
I don't know about the Treaty of Canterbury (and variants), but it does make me wonder about the future of the Treaty of Le Touquet (or at least juxtaposition).
