I'm not going to start deleting old posts, but I think this might be a good time to get back to the topic..

Indeed the topic, Graham Wanstall hand delivered his leaflet today in an envelope personally addressed to me. It must take a lot of time to do this throughout the ward but shows a type of old world courtesy

hi Reginald
at the time of writing the info hadn't been given and it was explained to me that was that
I wasn't happy with that outcome thus I went further
I think you need to be in these positions before commenting
but that said once info came forward it would have been better on deletion but its not my site I just contribute to it as do others
thankfully it is an open site
unlike some of the closed sites which creates there own problems.
but anyway no more on this
Back on the elections I even got an easter card hand written by mr Wanstall
In priory/Maxton/elms vale District elections It will be a hard one to call with just 2 days to go

It's a grey day here in Buckland ward and the question before me is: should I vote in the District Council election? Bit of a toughie, this. To take the Conservative candidate's job application, his fellows have: campaigned against the Calais jungle and for a Dover Patrol, stopped the port being sold to the (much-maligned) French, fixed the railway sooner than the railwaymen could and seen Labour voted off the Town Council. Oh, and we have a new hospital and one less office block. Do I feel inspired with the prospects for ward and district - well, not on the basis of the evidence presented.

Sad comment above. If you live in a community then you have a duty to vote that the right person is elected. Here in River we still have unresolved issuies Im also greatly concerned re social care .Today I shall vote for a or persons who have a good track record of working for the community. You need a strong voice at County.East Kent and especially Dover needs people who can do that .

Post 169: Well thanks a bunch Mr McS, kick me whilst I'm being drizzled on why don't you!
Post 170: I agree, I do feel sad. But I need my prospective representatives (and I don't mean to pick on the Conservative one particularly) to stay on topic and explain their relevance to me in the context in question; I'm just not seeing it and thus have little basis on which to make an informed choice. My mother, on the other hand, always used to vote for the 3rd one on the ballot paper, which somewhat shocked her when she belatedly realised that the usual suspects had changed. At least with the General Election I can vote for whomsoever can eat a chip with decorum.

I wonder if it will be a case of the same old people getting re-elected, which is what I am expecting, or will there be a new face to represent us.

I'll be exercising my democratic right not to vote, none of the candidates or parties inspire me so I'll sit this one out.

How many votes do we get on the KCC one? I thought it was two but my polling card doesn 't say, mind you I will only vote for one anyway this time. Still not made up my mind on District.

I think you have to work out who will do the least damage in the future and vote accordingly but if you do not vote you have no right to complain when things go pear shaped.

I'm afraid that's just not true, I have the right to complain about anything in the same way I have the right not to vote. Voting for the least poor candidate is a strange approach.
Until such time as voter turnout falls to a single figure % people will think they have a mandate to represent us, I don't want to be seen supporting somebody I don't support.

The KCC Election count will take place tomorrow at the various town halls but what about the two DDC by-elections, does anyone know when their votes will be counted?

It turned out that I had two votes on County the same as in previous years. Incidentally there was a sign inside the door of the polling station stating that although pencils are provided people can use their own pens. This must be in response to comments made on social media by UKIP supporters before the last General Election and the Referendum that they were concerned their X would be erased and put somewhere else on the ballot paper.

Never ceases to amaze me that people don't understand KCC has divisions and District Councils have wards .Here in River we have been used to one KCC Councillor now we will have two as we are part of Dover who ever he or she may be .Doesnt help as the two male candidates surname begins with the same letter as does the two female candidates.
