Two men charged with kidnap in Dover have been remanded in custody by magistrates. Carl D'Arcy of Cauldham Close, Capel and Elliot Jordan Crawley of Squires Way, Dover both appeared before Medway magistrates yesterday.

Dover maths student Ellie Fordham has won backing for her university education after successfully bidding for a Port of Dover bursary. The former Dover Rowing Club member and Dover Girl's Grammar School pupil will get £3,000 a year to support her studies for a BSC honours degree in mathematics at Portsmouth University.

Dover District Council has awarded a 12 year management contract for the new Dover District Leisure Centre to Places for People Leisure Management Ltd following a competitive tender process. Construction on the £26m facility started this month with a planned opening early in 2019.

Cllr Keith Morris has been elected as the new Leader of Dover District Council. A ward councillor for St Margaret's-at-Cliffe, Cllr Morris was first elected to the Council in 2011 and has been a Cabinet Member since 2015.

Former Dover Mercury journalist Graham Tutthill, now chairman of the Love Dover Regeneration charity, was the speaker at a packed meeting organised by The Dover Society at St Mary's parish centre on Monday night. Graham gave details of the aims and objectives of the Love Dover group of which the mayor Neil Rix and Dover town clerk Allison Burton are fellow trustees.
Reefer specialists Cool Carriers bring new trade to Dover

One of the world's largest reefer vessel operators has announced plans to trade through the Port of Dover from next year. Cool Carriers will bring its Coolman Central America and West Indies service to Dover Cargo Terminal for onward distribution to UK and European markets from January.

Kent Police is appealing for witnesses following a serious collision yesterday on the A2 near Dover. A black Vauxhall Vectra car was travelling on the coastbound A2 at Lydden when it left the carriageway, travelled over a verge and came to a stop on its roof.

Kent's first open access creative start-up hub launches in Dover

Future Foundry, a social enterprise that helps young people gain a foothold in the creative industries, is launching Kent's first open access digital creative space tomorrow (Saturday 28th October) at Biggin Hall in Dover. It will provide free design and digital manufacturing facilities along with mentoring from industry experts for 16-30 year olds in Dover, Folkestone, Deal and Canterbury.

Tenants of the new £53m St James development in Dover town centre will begin a recruitment drive at the Dover Jobs Fair at Dover Town Hall on Thursday, 9 November 2017. Among those recruiting will be Cineworld, M&S, Next, Costa Coffee, Greggs, Shoezone and Trespass. In total, the St James development is expected to create 500 new jobs.
