Dover District Council approves new £26m leisure centre

At a special meeting today, Dover District Council's Cabinet gave the go ahead for the construction of the new £26m Dover District Leisure Centre at Whitfield. Construction will start on the 2.1ha site later this month with a planned opening early in 2019.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the reported thefts of charity collection boxes in Dover. Craig Dunn, 25, of Westbury Road, was taken into custody yesterday accused of stealing approximately £50 worth of donations from the Dovorian Restaurant in Priory Place.

Cllr Paul Watkins is to retire as Leader of Dover District Council and step down as a ward councillor on 30 September 2017. Cllr Watkins has been Leader since 2003 and is one of the longest serving Council Leaders in Kent.
Police give out home security advice following burglaries in Dover

Officers are warning residents to make sure their homes are secure after three burglaries were reported in Dover. The first is reported to have taken place overnight on Sunday in Buckland Avenue, the second was also reported overnight on the same day in Ashen Tree Lane and the third was reported overnight in Lower Road, River, on Wednesday.
New play area on the way for St Radigund's

Work has started today to construct a new play area at the Triangles Community Centre in St. Radigund's, Dover. The new facilities are designed for children up to the age of 14, and will include a range of inclusive play equipment. There will also be a picnic area together with outdoor gym equipment, suitable for all ages and abilities.

A man has been jailed for 120 days after pleading guilty to seven shoplifting offences and the theft of three charity boxes in Dover. James Christopher Pope was sentenced on 16 September at Canterbury Magistrates' Court. He also pleaded guilty to attempted theft.
