You gossip machine must be on go slow this unfortunate news was made public nearly a week ago.
Peter did so much to improve the place so I can't help but feel the owners might have some ulterior motive in getting rid of him. Peter posted the following on March 3rd
"A lot has changed within the last few days, rides will be removed and events will cease to be put on by myself. Eventually I will be moving on to the main high St once I've found a suitable premise. Sadly myself and the owners had a difference in future aspects and I ended up putting in a lot of my money which wasn't backed by them. It's sad to see the impact so quick but I hope people still continue to support the small independent traders within the centre. I had a meeting with the owners today in an attempt to lease the building which failed. I hope whomever takes over the role has the same support from the locals as I have had over the past year because without that we wouldn't have what has so far become. 3 new shops will be opening soon and I hope you will support them. Thank you to everyone for the kind words and messages."

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Sorry to hear that as he has put a lot of effort in there and tried new ideas out, the Christmas event was top drawer.
Maybe he took too much on running the centre and his own business?
I don't know what the answer is with the Charlton Centre it is a revolving door for businesses. no shortage of traders keen to move in but so many don't last long. Off the top of my head the long serving ones are the furniture shop, bed shop under two different managements. the ladies clothing at the front and the cafe. My patina'd heart seems to be doing well since moving from the back unit and the washing machine shop(which I can highly recommend) is normally busy.

Saw some workmen in the Hooked On Books shop yesterday.
The electrical shop further along looks near to opening,

The afore mentioned electrical shop is up and running:-
And there's to be another cafe:-
At the same time the chip shop next door is having a revamp.

Looks like the old Portuguese restaurant unit that has been empty for quite a long time. If I remember correctly there was a shop in Worthington Street that specialised in vinyl a few years back.

The Taste Of India restaurant next the Eagle is moving/has moved to the High Street - couldn't quite make out the number.

Noticed earlier that the former White Cliffs Autos opposite the police station has opened as White Cliffs Cafe.
Heard a rumour that the Pilgrims Hospice charity shop in London Rd is due to close down.

The Sir John Falstaff had a notice in window saying 'opens soon' but then the Dover express ran a story last year that said it was opening soon but that was over a year ago, still I bet its open sooner than the grocer's in Charlton centre!

21 High Street, I think was previously an Indian takeaway, seems a bit of a reduction in business premises.

Once this opens the long term monopoly that Hall's had will be over.
