Looks almost certain to be held in June or July with the majority of Tory MP's wishing the UK to leave the EU. However the representatives of the other parties are firmly in favour of us remaining. A further complication has arisen with Theresa Villiers the Northern Ireland secretary campaigning to leave when the province is heavily reliant on trade with the Irish Republic.
Wonder which way Charlie will vote, as if we didn't know.

I would be prepared to bet actual money that Charlie will vote to stay in even with a free vote.

You can bet you life savings on that Jan, Charlie is ambitious and nailed his colours to Dave's mast on day one and it has paid off for him. With over 4 years to go he still has time to climb even higher.

Howard, I was not including any of what you have stated in my thoughts, I simply think he is in favour of the EU.

It is mooted by some that we leave the EU and join the EEA like Norway therefore doing a deal on free trade but not having a role in decision making. This article is a bit misleading as it states correctly that Norway pays hundreds of millions to the EU for the privilege intimating that we would have to do the same. This is wrong of course because Norway exports to the EU in large quantities but we are a nett importer.

I think this sums up the situation quite well showing that the EU need us more than we need them, the big economies know this but no reform is possible without a unanimous vote which will never happen.

Looks like Dave has been sold another pup with so many provisos involved. The ultimate one is that all EU leaders are in agreement which obviously isn't going to happen with the poorer countries reliant on money coming in from UK taxpayers.

Looks like another sound bite for Dave as he is desperate to get at an early summer referendum but things are a long way off from anything with any real meat on the bones.

FWIW I've long been behind Dominic Cummings on this one.
Even the Economist, who on balance back 'IN', admit a sneaky admiration for him!
He is "someone for whom the phrase 'doesn't suffer fools gladly' was invented" yet has been described as "a liability and a danger" which is OK with me!

There's an interview with him here:-

This new voter registration scheme is a bit of a double edged sword, apparently around 800, 000 would be voters are not on the electoral register. many of them students living away from the family home. Labour are up in arms as they believe that more younger voters support them than the others as evidenced by them wanting the voting age lowered to 16. No-one has talked about effect on the EU vote where most would vote to remain .

If labour did get the voting age brought down they have already pledged to bring back EMA, it would almost guarantee every 16 yr old voting labour, especially with the compulsory education age going up.
Sounds like bribery to me.

That's like any manifesto Reg.
The PM is somehow crowing that this is a big success.

Dave has returned and gave his "I have in my hand a piece of paper" speech and the press and opinion polls strongly advise him of the best way to use it. I think he is trying to rush the referendum through before people realise there are actually no real concessions. My feeling is that he will get away with this way and we will stay locked in with ever increasing pay outs until it collapses of its own free will.
