Here we go again - while we all make sacrifices, the government is laughing at us:
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/dec/01/boris-johnson-accused-of-flouting-covid-rules-with-no-10-parties-last-christmas
You may or may not agree with James O'Brien, but on this he is spot on. The PM thinks Brexit has given him cover to do absolutely anything he wants (party on while we lock down, contracts for mates, getting his pals off the hook in Parliament), and his supporters will just keep supporting....even while he's laughing at them, not with them. But nobody likes being taken for a fool and that's what's going on here.

Fortunately the Great British Public think otherwise Neil!
DO try looking at the rest of the world before you knocking your own country.
Looks like UK is poised to have the fastest growing economy in the G7 next year.
Poor old Keith got roasted at PMQs yesterday - yet again.

Yes. And why? Because we had the greatest fall in GDP in 2020. Always best to present the full facts.

It's complicated
Not really. Unless you know better than the OBR, of course.

I agree it is complicated and guesswork from those with authority gets us nowhere, about as reliable as statistics from either side of an argument when trying to prove a point.

Neil
It's fine to come on here being critical of Bodge up
But really I'm not confident the way it's acting under the present leader would be any better

So then Neil
Bodge up got it wrong and without doubt that's going to cost him.
But with the major opposition continuing to infight
And now the new shadow cabinet elections or appointments showing it doesn't want to win the next election .
I suppose your only choice Neil is to be critical of bodger

How, exactly, am I knocking my own country?

You're right, Keith. I see nothing in Labour at the moment that indicates it could win an election. Nothing. The reshuffle was good - some powerful voices on the front bench now, so maybe that's a start.
Having said that, I am starting to see that the Tories are beginning to occupy a position where they could lose one. It's all unforced errors too - the Owen Paterson farce, the number 10 party on the very day that everyone is being told they can't see relatives, tax rises, abandoning the northern rail promise, the migrant crisis. It gives me hope.

This (turnout 34%) is what happens when you have x-million TV channels, Netflix, TV on demand, etc: there's always something better to do indoors!

The most unexpected figure with those posted by Button is that the Monster Raving Loony Party were at the bottom of the poll.

I reluctantly agree with Mr Sansum; my hot tip for Labour would be to fend people prepared to answer an interviewer's questions - simply saying the government's got it all wrong (on any topic) doesn't cut it for me.

Not a good look when labour supporters know they can't win an election so are holding onto the hope that the conservatives will lose it.

I was (pleasantly) surprised to see that both the Liberal Democrats and the Greens got so few votes that they lost their deposit.

Quite! I don't know why Labour finds self-promotion so hard: you wouldn't see, say, a Cadbury's advert saying "Yorkie bars are rubbish so you ought to buy our confectionery instead - once we've made some".
Mind you, the Conservative equivalent is not without risk; it's all very well to have your brand associated with a humorous character, but you wouldn't put Kevin Carrot in charge of the boardroom.

I might be a little less keen to gloat, Cap'n. North Shropshire is not far away and Chesham and Amersham not far behind.
There are more people who realise that we being led by a mendacious, idle hypocrite than you imagine. Even amongst traditional blues.

I wonder whether the Conservatives will (privately at least) be concerned that there was a significant swing to Labour, who were not even trying?

You are correct , both major parties have lost the support of the electorate .
At least Neil now accepts Labour had no chance ,
But he's had time , and still he's expelling , or stopping candidates who have support of local party .
Instead putting in own candidate .
Until labour re-engages it had no chance .
Labour cannot rely on Tories losing that isn't enough .
Brian
She holds that seat at the mo , but the local party doesn't support her do it's probably her last term
