10:487421It is not just live Keith,it could be work,or an intrest eg.Club.Now I know most of the Candidates and I live in the ward but spend little of my time here.I obviously know Mandi,Vic and Viv,have met Tony and Dean stands virtually everywhere never met as far as I know Ray.
It is more than 'I will do my best for them and I will represent them 'anyone can say that and never even go to the ward, when I am asked who is standing I try not to be political but inform voters who they are and what they represent, also what you can do at Town Council level is limited and yet they are the grass roots level and need to be aware of the special needs of the Ward, not I have been there a few times.
Just my point of view.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

12:457424At the last count three of them live in the ward, Viv Revell, Tony Ovenden and Ray White.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

01:017450Viv stood for District Council at Priory, Elms Vale and Maxton (where she got in), now she is trying again for a town seat at St. Rad's.

06:527453In a couple of weeks I shall be voting. I know it's early days, but to date I've had two flyers and a poster. The poster just said "Vote for........." and very little else. In fact I doubt the legallity of it. One leaflet tells that the person works hard for, and lives, in the area. The other gives a bit more background but the candidate lives elsewhere.
Now I'm not knocking the candidates in any way but it would be nice to have a bit more info. What jobs do they do, what have they done in the past, that sort of thing. As it happens I know three of the candidates quite well, two I could very well vote for, the third I certainly wouldn't vote for and would prefer that said person was in prison.
So please prospective councillors next time tell us more about yourselves.

07:127456I haven't read all the candidate's papers Terry, but do agree that there's very little substance in them.
So which party has picked the one who should be in prison Terry ?

07:357459I do see what you are saying Terry, but I also see that a lot of people are not really interested in that stuff to.
However. I am pretty straight forward. Born in the Midlands.
Fathers family originally from Folkestone but moved during 2nd world war. Folkestone and Dover have always been my 2nd home, and we were always here school holiday time. EVERY SCHOOL HOLIDAY !!
Great Aunt and Uncle Bert and Mildred Johnson were once mayor and mayoress of Folkestone.
When I moved here I worked for P & O and then Premus before becoming a full time mum, Married to husband Jas since 2004, who is an electrician, been involved in carnival for 8 years. Supported many local events throughout that time.
Keith you say that people tend to vote for the people who live closest to them. Perhaps it would be better for the electorate to see what their candidates are doing to prepare themselves to represent that ward.
Out of the 6 candidates standing. As far as I know only 1 attended the meeting last night regarding the "Street Scene " project.
That to me is not good
Certainly made me ask myself whether they would be committed to the job

Surely its better to vote for the most able candidate and the candidate that you think would best represent your interests and the interests of the Ward rather than just voting for Mrs Higginbottom 'who may be totally bloody useless, just cos she lives on Arkwright St just down the road but within the ward.
If we followed your idea Gynnfor Prosser would never have been elected as Dovers MP.

12:347473Just had my first leaflet, this is a Town Council election isn't it?Because most of the Orangey things is says are not Town Council items,he also mentions our part of Dover in fact 5 times, when the picture is of Clarendon and his address is Reading Road, and then has the cheek to say Labour's Candidate is already a Councillor for Elms Vale,so how about work as we know he doesn't live in the Ward,so where is he a journalist in Dover, not as far as I knowSt Rads's times?
This is what I was saying and I purposely did not get political,St Rads needs someone who lives/works/or who has an interest in the Ward, not just Dover.
But some good advice if you see anyone causing damage, phone the Police, and what about the massive response to the crime survey, what crime survey?I live in St Rads and I haven't see a survey,I am a Councillor for Tower Hamlets and I didn't know about a survey.Did anyone take part.?
He also has decided it is a 2 horse race in a six candidate election, what an insult to the other 4 candidates.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

12:507475Orangey Marek Lib Dems,done a little more research on the bottom of the form it tells you that at a previous result it was Lab 43% Lib 37% others 20% at an election on 09.02.2006,well I didn't remember voting then so I pulled up the Election result;
Maxton Elms Vale and Priory Ward Result 09.02.2006.
Lee Alan ind 161
Mackie John Lib 300
Royston Bobby Lab 354 ELECTED.
BUT
ST Radigunds Ward 19.10.2006 the ward where there is an election;
Dimmock Stewart New Party 139
Jones Susan Lab 284 ELECTED.
Mchugh Peter nothing shown 92
So that is a bit misleading as yes they got what they said in Elms Vale but No Libs stood in St Rads 8 months later, seems like a case of no elections at the moment might as well stand somewhere,.....oh look St Rads....not impressed.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
