Worth noting that William Wragg is a senior member of the 22, and I think they are lining up the compulsory vaccination of NHS staff as the big battle ground (forcing a U Turn). Then it will be the tax rises, and so on. They are waiting to see what concessions they can get from Johnson before making their move.

You may be correct Neil

Given this
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-60108377, can anyone advise me who it is that appoints MPs to be ministers and, more relevantly, dismisses them from ministerial office (c.f "Ms Ghani... lost that job in a mini-reshuffle of Mr Johnson's government in February 2020").

Not that I want it to happen, but here is a prediction;
- The Partygate report gets issued Wednesday morning
- It causes untold political damage just before PMQs
- Just as Boris gets up to explain at PMQs
- Putin invades Ukraine
- and Boris gets away with it again because of a bigger story and he tries to impersonate Churchill......
I'm glad I'm off work Wednesday, I'd hate to be at work for the end of the world

Of course, it is Johnson. Entirely his responsibility (even if the job is likely to have been outsourced to Cummings).

Unless there's some deeply hidden irony in Ghani's letter, her 'had a blast, thanks' was genuine.
My completely unsceptical self cannot possibly believe she's just spotted a mob and joined in.

Politics for active politicians has always been a case of 'my side is better and more honest than yours', but at the moment it seems to be more nasty than usual.
Boris is doing all he can to divert attention from what I now think of as a pack of lies, including this new birthday gathering. That will not work with those of us who actually obeyed the rules, laws and directives ordered from his many TV appearances, he is simply a dead man walking.

Thank you for that, I had imagined that the PM appoints and dismisses ministers.
I can understand coppers referring themselves to The Complaints and I suspect that, at some stage, we have all wanted independent confirmation that yesterday's party really happened and was not just a strange dream. But I am struggling a bit with the notion of Boris deciding to have his own dismissal of a minister investigated - isn't this trick-cyclist territory?

Whilst you may want to play it all down Bob
This is fast becoming a total embarrassed govt .
Boris hasn't come out of this well (to put it mildly)
If he had been honest at the start may have helped a little .
Jan's correct , only when you are at the bed side as I was with my mum dieing , would you want a full investigation into this govt, and it's so called leader .
Whilst ministers attempt to distract away from Bungling Boris , giving the same clap trap on how well he's done.
All is noted on what he did well , but it's also noted how many buddies had big financial contracts obtained running into millions , some reported poor quality , some reported not even existing .
It's heartbreaking to watch the country go downhill
But worse that we all followed the govt guidance whilst it appears the govt leader partied

Made me smile:
I predict it's only a matter of time before the 'Police aware' tape goes up on the door of No.10.
Still, to be fair, today's i reports that "Boris Johnson 'does not believe' he has broken law but will speak to officers if asked". So that's nice.

As a result of the Metropolitan Police’s investigations, and so as not to prejudice the police investigative process, they have told me that it would only be appropriate to make minimal reference to the gatherings on the dates they are investigating. Unfortunately, this necessarily means that I am extremely limited in what I can say about those events and it is not possible at present to provide a meaningful report setting out and analysing the extensive factual information I have been able to gather.
Says all you need to know, really.

I think
this says all you need to know:
'Ms Gray was forced to rewrite the report to be released on Monday after the force asked for only "minimal reference" to be made to events the Metropolitan Police are looking at, in order to "avoid any prejudice to our investigation".
Asked whether a further version of Ms Gray's report would be published after the police probe, the PM's spokesman replied: "
We will consider what will be appropriate in due course" [my emphasis].' Source:

Yep. Sums it up. We'll hope that Cressida (who was adamant that she didn't feel the need to investigate in the first place) will save our sorry, lying backsides. No wonder this country is a global laughing stock.

I suspect that many who lost family or friends do not really care what the report says or how the police respond. The spirit of the rules, regulations and medical advice was seemingly ignored by many behind the doors of no.10 with those numerous gatherings and we will not forget or forgive.
