Kent Police is investigating reports of 21 burglaries from businesses in High Street, Biggin Street, Cherry Tree Avenue, Elms Vale Road, Pencester Road, Market Square, and Castle Street between 1 February and 5 March 2018.

PfP Leisure take over the management of the existing Dover Leisure Centre on Townwall Street from 1 April 2018 which will remain open until the new £26m Dover District Leisure Centre opens at Whitfield early in 2019.

A Dover man who blamed the injuries he inflicted on a former partner on her dog has been jailed. Arron Stanley, of Shooters Hill, Dover, denied controlling or coercive behaviour and one count of assault during a trial at Canterbury Crown Court.
Consultation on dog control plans launched by DDC

Dover District Council has launched a consultation today on plans to renew the order controlling dogs in the district, with some minor changes. DDC introduced a Public Spaces Protection Order in 2015, covering a range of matters including areas where dogs are banned or where they need to be kept on a lead.

A cold case investigation into the 2007 death of a man in Hythe has led to an arrest on suspicion of murder at an address in Dover. Wayne Baker was rescued from a fire in the afternoon of Sunday 11 November 2007, but died a month later in hospital.

Cannon restoration brings a bang to Dover's Maison Dieu

Three cannons have been returned to take pride of place adjacent to Dover's Grade I listed Maison Dieu following restoration. The works included cleaning the cannons and building new gun carriages from English Oak. The guns are believed to be over 200 years old and were gifted to the town by Alderman Matthew Pepper.

Special events are being held this weekend to mark the centenary of the death of First World War hero Walter Tull, whose mother, Alice Palmer, was born in Dover. Several relatives still live in Dover, Folkestone and Maidstone and they will be among those attending events to mark 100 years since he was killed by a German sniper during the second battle of the Somme on 25 March 1918.
Offender jailed after bottle assault

A Special Constable's statement, taken from the back of an ambulance, has helped secure the conviction of a man who repeatedly struck a victim around the head with a glass bottle. The volunteer officer became aware of the assault while attending an unrelated incident in Dover and, while accompanying the victim to hospital, learned that Rytis Baltrukoanis had carried out the assault.
